US: Skechers to step into medical apparel market

Skechers USA Inc is hoping to mirror the success of its workplace footwear with the launch of a new branded line of apparel for nurses and other healthcare professionals.

The collection, which promises a "younger, more flattering fit than traditional medical apparel" is part of a licensing deal signed with Strategic Partners, the makers of Cherokee Medical Apparel.

Due to launch in January 2010, the line will feature ready-to-wear trends in basics like scrubs, pants, jackets and tees.

"Doctors and nurses already love our Skechers Work non-slip footwear products," said president Michael Greenberg.

"This new medical apparel line perfectly complements our workplace footwear offerings and will be a fantastic extension to the Skechers brand and lifestyle within medical environments."
