Crocs' hospital shock

Plasic clog maker Crocs today revealed details of a new range aimed at hospital workers. The designs feature closed toe and heel areas that do away with the characteristic holes found in the popular fashion lines. Obviously this makes sense from a safety point of view to avoid needles and spillages from seeping through the shoes.

Ironically, there have also been a lot of media reports recently suggesting the clogs pose another kind of safety risk, and could be banned from hospitals over fears that they generate static electricity which interferes with life-saving medical equipment. But as Giles Smith points out in The Times, there could be an easy solution to the static electricity dilemma. Why not devise a Jibbitz – the plastic charm that attach to Crocs - that doubles as an earthing device? Now that's a neat solution if ever there was one.
