Kuwaiti investment bank Global Investment House has bought a “significant” stake in Saudi textile manufacturer Ajlan Bin Abdulaziz Al-Ajlan & Brothers (Ajlan) through its private equity funds.

Ajlan began operations in 1953 in Saudi Arabia as a one-shop operation for selling men’s shmaghs, ghutras, undergarments and throbs. The company became focused on textiles in 1975, and then in the 1980s it expanded its business presence when new shops were added. Currently, Ajlan has five production subsidiaries in the People’s Republic of China and it markets its products in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
