Dozens of workers at the Austrian unit of German sports apparel and sports goods giant Adidas Salomon are to lose their jobs as part of the company's global reorganisation.

Adidas Austria, will lay off 37 of its 83 employees at its HQ in Klagenfurt, southern Austria, with the cuts affecting management, service call centre and accounts division.

Adidas Austria director Walter Reisenzahn dismissed suggestions the site could be closed. The unit reported a pre-tax profit of $5 million for 2001 and is expected to post a similar result for 2002.
