The Tucuman Province's Minister of Production, Rafael Bulacio announced that the National Bank of Argentina and the government would each give $7m to save the Alpargatas textile company. The government's contribution would be channeled through the governors of the six provinces where the company is located. The $14m would in part be used to carry out orders for interest free merchandise, such as jeans and slippers, manufactured by the company, with payment of the products beginning in 2002.
