German sewing thread maker Amann has opened a new twisting plant in China and begun work on building a thread production facility to serve the Asian market.

The new twisting plant, called Amann Twisting (Yancheng), has been two years in the making and will employ 350 people and have an annual production capacity is 3m tons.

The adjacent facility, Amann Sewing Threads (Yancheng), will include a dyehouse and make-up section which are due to begin production in January 2011.

With an annual capacity of 2.5m tons and 150 employees, this will enable the Amann Group to serve the Asian market on a just-in-time basis from its base in China.

New production capacities are also being planned in India, the company says.
