US: American Eagle Outfitters taps Levi's Hanson as CEO

Teen apparel retailer American Eagle Outfitters has tapped Levi's executive Robert Hanson as its next CEO.

The firm yesterday (15 November) said Hanson will succeed retiring CEO Jim O'Donnell, who has led the company since 2002.

Hanson was most recently global president of the Levi's brand. He worked for 23 years with the denim label, holding a variety of leadership roles in the merchandising, product development, multi-channel, marketing and creative teams.

"After an extensive search, we believe Robert is the ideal person to build on AEO's strengths, maximizse our portfolio of brands across North America and propel our brands into new markets across the world," said chairman Jay Schottenstein.

"He brings extensive experience in the apparel industry and global brand positioning. In Robert, we have an individual who possesses a unique blend of merchandising, innovative marketing and strong operational skills, with a proven ability to inspire and lead creative apparel and retailing teams."

The appointment will be effective 30 January 2012, with Hanson also joining the company's board.
