Youth-oriented fashion retailer American Eagle Outfitters Inc on Thursday posted a 34 per cent slide in second quarter net income to $10.1 million from $15.3m in 2001 as sales at its Canadian subsidiary, Bluenotes/Thriftys, continued to slide. The Pennsylvania-based operator of around 825 stores said total sales for the quarter climbed 9.2 per cent to $319.2m but same-store sales slipped 5.5 per cent and sales at its Bluenotes/Thriftys unit fell 11 per cent to $18.8m.
