Formal and casual shoe producrer Rombah Wallace has been bought by Belfast-based private equity group Amicus Partners for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition of the Norwich-based company follows Amicus' purchase of leading hosiery maker and owner of the famous Charnos brand, Adria Ltd, last May.

Amicus said in a press release Rombah enjoys a turnover of around £4 million with its footwear sold in more than 270 stores across the UK and Ireland.

Amicus partner and Adria CEO, Carl Francis, said: "We believe that the Rombah Wallace business has considerable growth potential and are confident that by expanding design and product development resources, we will significantly grow the business of this prestigious shoe brand.

"This acquisition is also consistent with Amicus' strategy of using our investment in Adria as a platform to create a portfolio of quality apparel brands."

He added John Beddows of Amicus will be chairman of the new footwear business.
