Textile producer Arvind has ended its association with US suit maker Hartmarx following the company's bankruptcy and subsequent acquisition.

In a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange, Arvind Ltd said it had terminated its agreement with Hartmarx to launch three of the company's brands locally: Hart Schaffner Marx, Sansabelt and Pierre Cardin.

Hartmarx, which filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January this year, was sold at court auction to London-based Emerisque Brands and S Kumars Nationwide Ltd last week.

Local reports said that Arvind had yet to decide how to fill the gap left by the abandoned Hartmarx business, but would focus on its recent US Polo Association launch, and the forthcoming debut of the Izod brand.
