Supermarket group Asda today (13 August) confirmed that Angela Spindler, an executive director of the company and global managing director of clothing line George, has resigned.

The company, which is a subsidiary of US giant Wal-Mart, said that Spindler had been thinking about resigning for a while and had decided that she would like to spend more time with her family.

She has worked for the business for nearly ten years, joining as business unit director for chilled provisions, and has had a three year stint in retail development when she was appointed to the executive board.

Spindler has been global George managing director since late 2005.

Asda said: "Angela is known for her enthusiasm for the business and has made a huge personal impact on the culture of Asda through her passion for people. She has also been instrumental in driving our strategy forward as part of the senior leadership team.

"She has made a huge contribution to both the George and Asda business and will of course be sadly missed and we wish her well."

Mark Daynes, COO will continue to look after the logistical side of the George business and Fiona Lambert, brand director, will continue looking after design, buying and marketing.
