UK: Asda takes on Primark with budget clothing collection
Supermarket Asda launched a new clothing range today that it hopes will take on rival chain Primark.
The new collection, called George Must Haves, is about 20% cheaper than the popular George range, which itself has been celebrated for selling good clothes at low qualities.
Must Haves, which will be renewed monthly, will feature 15 items of both men's and women's fashions plus a smaller selection of children's clothing from 6 April.
The move comes as the Primark chain, which sells a vast range of fast-changing lines at rock-bottom prices, gains ever more popularity with savvy shoppers.
Industry rumours say high-profile football player Wayne Rooney is near to signing an advertising deal for Asda.
