UK: Asos shipped 710,000 items over festive period

Online retailer Asos has reported that during a strong festive period it shipped 710,000 items.

Asos met 285,000 orders in November and December 2006, as sales increased 80% for the four weeks to 10 December.

Asos chief executive Nick Robertson said: "We had a great Christmas. The fact that we continue to outperform the online market in general is testament to our buyers, our proposition, and the enduring appeal of Asos amongst our customer base"

The 18- to 34-year-olds' retailer was hit by the Buncefield oil depot fire in 2005, resulting in  stock damage and causing it to shut its warehouse for a month.
