KENYA: Bata increasing production capacity

Shoe maker Bata Shoe Company (Kenya) Limited is investing KES50m (US$814,269) in new machinery to increase its production capacity, according to local media reports.

The additional investment comes as part of an existing expansion strategy, which began last year, to increase capacity by 50% by the end of this year.

Carlos Garces, the company's managing director, was quoted by The Nation as saying: "We intend to take advantage of our increased production capacity to make savings on our costs, which we will then pass on to our customers in form of affordable shoe prices."

Bata Shoe Company (Kenya) has 1,600 employees and 74 shops across the country.
