Bata India Ltd, the country's largest shoe maker, hopes to increase its annual sales by 25 per cent in the next three years officials have revealed.

"We have aggressive marketing plans for the next three years and will increase the number of sale pairs to 75 million from 60 million a year currently," managing director Stephen Davies told reporters at a news conference on Friday.

The plans are an attempt to offset net losses of 260.5 million rupees in 2003.

Bata India, a subsidiary of Bata Shoe Organisation, may consider a rights issue to part-finance its future investment plans.

New initiatives include the development of a township at Batanagar, modernisation of factories and setting up of an integrated retail management system in partnership with Infosys.
