UK: Bebe Stores narrows Q3 loss

By | 5 May 2011

Women’s wear retailer Bebe Stores Inc has narrowed its third quarter loss, as flat sales in the period were offset by lower mark-downs.

Net loss in the three months to 2 April narrowed to $2.64m from $5.47m a year earlier, while net sales edged up 0.6% to $109.5m from $108.8m last time. Comparable store sales fell 0.7%. Gross margin fell to 36.8% from 40.2% as lower mark-downs were offset by higher production costs.

For the fourth quarter the company, which operates 249 stores, sees same-store sales up in the low to mid-single digit range.
