Textile manufacturer Burlington Industries Inc on Monday revealed it will shut its transportation unit offices and trucking operations in Burlington early next year with the loss of around 130 jobs.

The North Carolina-based company unveiled news of the closure in a statement announcing an agreement with UPS Supply Chain Solutions to manage its logistics operations.

CEO George Henderson said: "For many years our transportation operations and private fleet have effectively served our operations. However, given our expanded international requirements, the time and cost of establishing our own global network is not feasible and can be best accomplished through UPS's established resources."

Burlington recently reported its first profitable quarter in a year and said it is optimistic of emreging from bankruptcy protection by next summer.
