US: Burlington joins with TrapTek for coconut fabric

By | 8 February 2006

Textiles group Burlington WorldWide is partnering with fibre company TrapTek for a range woven fabrics derived from coconut.

The fabrics offer specific comfort and performance benefits for active wear, men's wear, women's wear, military, homeland, uniform, and lifestyle markets.

Natural Technology, the coconut-based innovation, is claimed to provide evaporative cooling, odour resistance, and UPF protection.

The evaporative cooling effect is obtained by rapidly moving moisture over the active particles creating unprecedented 'dry times', the companies said.

"We look at this new breakthrough technology as sustainable in the sense of both being derived from coconuts and also offering multiple functionalities to sustain the marketing of our fabrics." commented Nelson Bebo, Burlington vice president of active wear.

"We look at TrapTek as the first of several new innovations we will be launching through our new Business unit, Burlington Labs," he continued.

The unique look of the technology will be a signature platinum colour and help promote the ability of the consumer to 'see' the Natural Technology.
