Women's apparel retailer Cache Inc has reported a second-quarter sales increase after making efforts to increase its fashion assortments.

Net sales for the quarter rose 7.9 per cent to USD67.0 million compared to USD62.1m in the same period last year. Same-store sales for the quarter grew 5 per cent.

Second-quarter net income totalled USD3.0m, or USD0.19 per diluted share, compared to USD0.27 per diluted share last year.

Brian Woolf, Cache's chairman, said: "The second quarter marked a pivotal period for Cache. We reported earnings that were ahead of our revised expectations, as our efforts to increase our fashion assortments met with improved results.

"We also successfully reduced our basic classification styles and currently are in the position to fully capitalise on the excitement that is developing for us in sportswear and casual apparel."
