Sportswear brand Champion has signed up to sponsor 2008 NFL first draft pick Rashard Mendenhall in a three-year deal.

The partnership with running back Mendenhall, who plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will build on Champion's "How You Play" campaign, the brand said, with a TV integration to follow later this year.

"We are thrilled to welcome Rashard to the Champion team," said Claire Edgar, Champion brand leader. "He is the perfect complement to our brand, which focuses on great performance, style and an inclusive, team-spirited, fun attitude to sport."

Outdoor and print advertising featuring Mendenhall is due to begin immediately in the Pittsburgh area, before the campaign goes national on television later in the year.
