Figures released by China's National Bureau of Statistics have revealed that the country produced 6.9416 million tons of chemical fibre during 2000, a 16.30 per cent year-on-year increase. The overall was rise was made up of a 16.40 per cent rise in synthetic fibres to 6.2952 million tons and a 17.30 per cent increase in the output of viscose fibre to 564,200 tons.
