CHILE: Cherokee signs new licensing deal

By | 10 January 2007

Brand marketer Cherokee Inc has established a distribution platform in South America after signing a licensing deal with SACI Falabella, a premier retailer in Chile and owner of its Tottus Hypermarket Stores.

The multi-year international licensing agreement applies to the Cherokee brand and covers a wide range of categories including men's, women's, children's clothing, footwear and accessories.

"As one of the only true global family lifestyle brands that cover a wide range of product categories, the Cherokee brand will add significant growth and profit to our apparel and non-foods business and will translate well into the South American market," Juan Benavides Feliú, CEO of Falabella, said in a statement.

This latest deal means the Cherokee brand will now have a sizeable presence in 20 countries around the world. It is also the third new international licensing agreement signed for the brand in the last 12 months, and sits alongside Pick 'n Pay in South Africa and Fawaz Al Hokair throughout the Middle East.

Cherokee's leading clients include Target Stores, TJX Companies, Mervyn's, Tesco, Hbc/Zellers, Grupo Aviara, and Shanghai Bolderway.

"Along with continued development with our existing partners, these new partners will continue to reinforce our 'world branding' strategies for the Cherokee brand and will strengthen our platform for future growth around the world," stated Larry Sass, Senior Vice President, Cherokee Inc.

With annual retail sales approaching $3.0bn, Cherokee is arguably one of the fastest growing family lifestyle brands in the world.
