US: Claire's Stores considering possible sale

By | 4 December 2006

Accessories chain Claire's Stores said it is exploring strategic alternatives to enhance shareholder value, including a possible sale of the company.

The company is retaining Goldman, Sachs & Co to advise it on its different options.

Claire's stressed that there can be no guarantee the process will result in any specific transaction.

It does not expect to disclose further developments unless and until its board of directors approves a definitive transaction.

Claire's sells value-priced costume jewellery and accessories to fashion-aware 'tweens', teens and young adult females through its two store concepts: Claire's and Icing by Claire's.

The company last week posted flat same-store sales for November as total sales rose 9%.
