The Brazilian textiles and ready-to-wear clothing manufacturers' association Abit (Associacao Brasileira da Industria Textil e de Confeccao) expects the sector's exports to reach US$4 billion by 2008.

Last year exports climbed 7 per cent to US$1.3 billion. Of this figure, clothing accounted for US$300 million. 

Brazilian shoe exports are also on the rise. In 2001, 171 million pairs were sold to the foreign market generating an income of US$1.6 billion.
