Cold weather helped lift sales at Fast Retailing's Uniqlo stores in Japan, as demand for winter items continued to grow.

Same-store sales edged up 0.8% year-on-year, while sales at the casual clothing brand's own stores (which include new ones that are less than a year old) increased by 3.6%. Total sales, including those online, rose 3.5%.

Uniqlo opened one new store and closed two in February.
