US footwear brand Collective Brands has announced the voluntary recall of one of its Keds styles after it received reports of cuts and scratches from parts that came loose.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Wednesday (16 November) that metal stars on the heel of the shoe can loosen. The recall follows some 27 reports of cuts and scratches resulting from the decorative metal stars that loosened from the heel of the girls' shoes.

The Keds shoes are black and pink rubber soled shoes with white trim and a pink loop on the heel. Keds appears on the tongue and heel of the shoe. The style number KY40098A is printed on the underside of the tongue. The shoes were sold in girls' sizes 12 to 5.

Collective Brands said the shoes, which were sold through various department stores and online retailers should contact Collective Brands to receive a gift card redeemable at Stride Rite stores or striderite.com.
