Undercover police officers and agents in New York have reportedly eliminated a group of counterfeit shops in the city's Canal Street area.

Officials closed down 32 shops in the Canal, Walker, Baxter and Centre Streets triangle, according to The New York Times.

The newspaper said that a civil lawsuit has been filed against the property owner.

No arrests were made, it said, but US$1m worth of goods - including fake Rolex, Coach, Prada and Gucci products - were confiscated from the shops involved, which had been monitored by the secret operation for two months.
