Leather and suede clothing retailer Danier Leather Inc on Wednesday reported a sharp rise in first quarter net loss to C$3.4 million from C$2.3m in the year prior as it was hit by the cost of new store openings. The Toronto-based chain said sales rose six per cent year-on-year to C$22.7m with sales of accessories surging 37 per cent and accounting for 20 per cent of total first quarter sales, up from 15 per cent in 2001.
