By | 12 October 2012

Department store group Debenhams will open its first store in Tbilisi, Georgia this weekend as part of wider expansion plans.

The 11,300 sq ft store will include designer brands such as Henry Holland, Editions, Jasper, Duffer and Ben de Lisi. The store, which is a former Peacocks site, will be run by Artur Hovsepy, a former manager of Peacocks and Next.

Debenhams international director Francis McAuley: "There are a growing number of international visitors to the country and an increasing interest in Western clothes designers and home wares that we are hoping to tap into."

"We are confident that the range of products and prices will appeal to our new Georgian customers."

Last month, Debenhams opened its first store in Russia and plans to double the scale of its international business over the next five years with the Middle East playing a significant role in the strategy.

The retailer will open a second store in Abu Dhabi tomorrow (13 October) at the Dalma Mall and next week, Debenhams will open an additional store in Riyadh, in Rabwa. Both stores will be operated by the company's franchise partner Alshaya Retail.
