The May Department Stores Company (NYSE: MAY) today reported preliminary net retail sales of $2.86bn for the five-week period ended December 30, 2000, a 3.8 per cent increase compared to the $2.75bn in the similar period last year. Store-for-store sales increased 1.0 per cent. Sales for the first 11 months of fiscal 2000 were $13.72bn, up 4.0 per cent over $13.19bn during the first 11 months of fiscal 1999.
