According to filings logged Wednesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Delta Apparel Co is negotiating the purchase of an idle textile plant in the south-eastern US for about $2.5 million.

The company said the acquisition would increase its textile capacity by 25 per cent. It also said an additional $1-1.5 million would be needed to start up the plant when it is bought.

Delta Apparel, based in Duluth, Ga, supplies knitted garments such as T-shirts. It didn't identify the seller in the filing and didn't provide more information about the location of the plant.
