US: Dollar General president David Beré to retire

David Beré, the president and chief strategy officer at discount store operator Dollar General, is to retire later this month.

Beré will step down at the end of the company's current fiscal year on 29 January after eight years with the company.

He took the helm of Dollar General as president in the autumn of 2006 and as interim CEO in July 2007.

The company says it does not intend to replace Beré, and that chairman and CEO Rick Dreiling will also assume the duties of president.

Dollar General operates more than 8,700 stores selling a range of products including basic apparel.
