Sports footwear giant Feng Tay Enterprises Co Ltd, which makes athletic shoes for top brands including Nike, on Tuesday posted a slight rise in nine month pre-tax profit.

The company reported a pre-tax profit of NT$718 million (US$20.6m) in the first nine months of 2002, up 2.1 per cent on the year-ago period. Earnings per share surged almost 20 per cent year-on-year to NT1.91.

Feng Tay said NT$320m (US$9.2m) of that sum was a return on investment in subsidiaries in mainland China and Vietnam.

It added it is currently installing three new production lines at one of its Vietnamese factories due to a bursting order book.
