Fourth quarter sales at The Finish Line Inc slipped 10.1%, the speciality retailer said today (6 March), as same-store sales dropped at its Man Alive casual wear nameplate.

The Indianapolis-based retailer said sales fell to $382.8m for the quarter to 1 March from $425.7m in the comparable period last year.

Same-store sales were down 6.0%, with a 5.4% decline at Finish Line and a 14.2% drop at Man Alive.

For the year, sales were down 4.1% to $1.277bn from $1.332bn, and comparable store sales fell 4.7%. By concept, same-store sales at Finish Line dropped 4.5% and at Man Alive decreased 8.8%.

The company, which operates 697 Finish Line stores and 94 Man Alive stores, earlier this week agreed to end a US$1.5bn merger deal with shoe and hat retailer Genesco.
