Athletic apparel and footwear retailer Foot Locker Inc has posted a 9.8 per cent increase in fourth quarter sales to $1.33 billion, up from $1.21bn in the same period a year earlier.

The company, which will report its results for full-year 2003 on March 2, also experienced a 3.9 per cent increase in comparable store sales.

"We are pleased with our fourth quarter sales results, which were in line with our initial expectations," CEO Matthew Serra said.

"Sales were particularly strong in our Foot Locker stores in the United States, which benefited from exciting new products from our suppliers."
