Textile maker Galey & Lord has announced plans to close its weaving plant in Shannon, Georgia, at a loss of 450 jobs.

The plant, which produces material for mens' apparel and womens' sportswear, will be shut down on August 2.

According to Galey & Lord CEO John Heldrich, its operations will be consolidated at the company's Marion, North Carolina facility.

North Carolina-based Galey & Lord blamed the impending closure on increased pricing competition from overseas manufacturers.
