Casual apparel giant Gap Inc on Tuesday announced the promotion of Tom Sands to executive vice president of Old Navy stores and operations.

The California-based operator of more than 4,200 stores said the 42-year-old was most recently senior vice president for the division but will now oversee stores and operations in the Northeast and Southeast zones.

"Since joining Gap Inc, Tom has introduced new ideas to us about stores and operations," said Old Navy president Jenny Ming in a statement.

"As we continue to strengthen our position as a value player, his experience and leadership will help maintain momentum for the Old Navy brand."

Gap also named Brian Lynch senior vice president of stores and operations for Gap outlet where he will oversee all Gap outlet, Banana Republic factory store and Old Navy outlet stores and operations.

The 45-year-old will be responsible for the division's marketing and visual teams and succeeds Steve Stickel, who joined its Banana Republic division as senior vice president of stores earlier this year.
