Leading marketer of infant and toddler apparel, Gerber Childrenswear Inc, on Friday posted a sharp 23 per cent fall in first quarter profits as it was hit by a weak retail environment. The company reported net income of $3.6 million, or 18 cents a share, compared with $4.7m, or 24 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Net sales fell to $51m from $54.2m.
