Grameen Uniqlo unveiled plans to open two more stores in the Bangladesh capital Dhaka

Japanese clothing chain Uniqlo is to open two more stores in the Bangladesh capital Dhaka, as part of plans to establish a nationwide chain.

The move comes two months after Uniqlo, owned by Japan's Fast Retailing Co Ltd, became the first global fashion brand to open stores in the country.

Grameen Uniqlo has already attracted a strong following across Dhaka, and the latest locations will cater to growing demand, a company spokesperson told just-style today (27 September), adding: "We plan to set up 20-30 new stores in other cities by the end of 2014."

The stores offer locally-produced clothing using locally sourced materials, priced at between US$2.50 and $15.50. They are part of a social business venture with Grameen Healthcare Trust.
