Grasim Industries, the flagship of the Aditya Vikram Birla group, is to reduce its manpower by around 3,500 jobs by the third quarter of the 2001-2002 fiscal year. The company has already reduced its workforce by around 2,300 with the closure of its pulp and fibre unit at Mavoor in Kerala. Now it has announced plans to further trim back its workforce, focusing on the cement division which will see a reduction of more than 1,000 people by the third quarter.
