Author: | 15 July 2009

Wheeled footwear firm Heelys Inc has hired Tom Hansen, the head of TM Advertising, as its new president and chief executive officer.

Hansen, who joins the Carrollton, Texas based firm on 1 August, brings more than 30 years of strategic marketing, new product development and marketplace innovation to his new position.

Describing Heelys as "one of the most innovative new products to come to market in the last ten years," he said: "We plan to bring that same innovative, entrepreneurial spirit to the creation of new products, new designs and a new brand marketing effort that will provide the solid foundation for Heelys to not only grow short term but to thrive for years to come."

He added: "I believe there are several cost and infrastructure opportunities that can be optimised given the company's reduced sales volume that should restore profitability very soon."

Gary Martin, chairman of the Heeleys board, described Hansen as "a proven executive with experience both building and restoring operations to their potential."

Excellent. Given his history, how long will it take to drive this company into the ground? Our guess is 18 months. Then, off to Detroit.Smile
