Up to 160 staff at Herdman's linen-spinning mill in Sion Mills are set to lose their jobs in the latest blow to Northern Ireland's textile industry.

The cuts were announced on Tuesday and follows the loss of more than 500 jobs at several firms recently including Desmonds and shirt makers Castledawson.

The company said it will continue to employ more than 270 people at the plant in Co Tyrone and blamed fierce competition from cheap producers in Asia for the losses.
