HONG KONG: HK Fashion Week To Debut New Events
A highlight this year for Fashion Week, which is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), is the New Fashion Collection Award. A new design contest for garment companies in the territory, the award is aimed at encouraging more local enterprises to start their own collections and brands by working closely with designers. Models will parade the finalists' stylish collections, which will be assessed on their marketability, creativity, and use of fabrics and technology.
In another new feature of Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2002, local designers will send their innovative collections down the runway at the Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza - Fly Now show, jointly sponsored by the HKTDC and Hong Kong's flagship carrier Cathay Pacific Airways.
The show also sees a new format this year, as it has expanded into two separate shows. "In recent years, there has been a growing number of talented designers from the Asia-Pacific region coming to Fashion Week,' says Mr C.S. Lee, director of exhibitions and publications, HKTDC. A total of 22 designers representing Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan will participate in the two shows, which will take place on day two of Fashion Week.
"Over the four days of Fashion Week, visitors will see a total of 10 runway shows, including house collections," said Mr Lee.
"There will also be an extensive range of fashion merchandise on display from over 460 companies in the exhibition's two main sections, the Garment and Accessories Mart and Fashion Gallery, as well as a series of informative seminars to keep Fashion Week visitors up-to-date with the latest market trends and fashion ideas," he added.
