US: Hot Topic reports wider second quarter loss

Mall-based specialty retailer Hot Topic has widened its second quarter net loss to $1.7m, or $0.04 per share, compared with a net loss of $0.9m, or $0.02 per share, in the fiscal second quarter of 2006.

Total sales for the 13 week quarter increased 1% to $161.7m, from $160.3m in the same period last year. Same-store sales declined 5.8% for the quarter.

The company issued third quarter guidance of earnings in the range of $0.13 to $0.16 per diluted share based upon a same-store sales decline of low-single digits.

At the end of the quarter, the company operated 693 Hot Topic stores and 133 Torrid stores.
