Julian Burnett will take up the role from 5 October

House of Fraser has appointed John Lewis executive Julian Burnett as chief information office (CIO) as part of the UK department store group's strategy to further develop its multichannel offer.

Burnett will take up the role on 5 October, replacing Peter Marsden, who acted as interim CIO following the departure of Uday Kotla.

With over 25 years’ experience working for consumer facing businesses, Burnett held the role of chief technology officer at department store retailer John Lewis from 2012 to 2015, and the same role prior to that for UK supermarket group Sainsbury’s.

In his new role, Burnett will have responsibility for the continued development of technology led solutions across the business and the integration of business needs with IT strategy and delivery.

In June, House of Fraser said it made a strong start to the year with positive sales growth from both stores and online. Sales were up 8.1% on a like-for-like basis (excluding VAT) for the 13 weeks to 2 May, while online sales soared 40%.
