IC Isaacs & Company Inc, the firm behind the Marithe & Francois Girbaud casual denim and sportswear brand, on Tuesday posted a 160 per cent hike in second-quarter profit.

Net income increased to $1.3 million, or $0.11 per diluted share, for the three months ended 30 June 2004, compared to $0.5 million, or $0.04 per diluted share, for the same period last year.

Net sales increased 24.7 per cent to $20.2 million in the second quarter of 2004 from $16.2 million in the previous year.

Gross profit increased 40.4 per cent to $8.0 million from $5.7 million last time.

"Growth in the quarter was driven by double digit increases in net sales of both men's and women's Girbaud products and positive sell-throughs at retail," said Peter Rizzo, chairman and CEO, IC Isaacs.
