As part of its goal of becoming the fashion hub of Southeast Asia over the next five years, the Thai Board of Investment (BoI) is to introduce a range of incentives aimed at attracting foreign fashion designers and creative personnel to the country.

The proposal was announced by Somphong Wanapha, BoI secretary-general, during a 16-day investment promotion trip to France, Germany, the Czech Republic and Japan.

After meeting with the Paris Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Somphong unveiled his plans and said: "We have to create additional incentives to attract international designers and creative types to Bangkok apart from granting visas and work permits.

"Personnel development is very important in the fashion industry. We have to devise appealing factors to encourage further development of designers and creatives here."
