Consumers in the UK shopped on the Internet more than ever last month amid the gloomy, wet weather, with sales of clothes and accessories leaping 56% year-on-year.

July saw a massive spike in total online sales, up 80% on last year to a new all-time high of GBP4.2bn (US$8.3bn) according to Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG).

The IMRG Index burst above 4000 for the first time ever and sales for the month were GBP1.86bn higher than in July 2006.
