US retailer JC Penney has appointed Michael Kramer as COO, effective 5 December.

The company announced today (14 November) that Kramer will be responsible for finance, investor relations corporate strategy and information technology.

He joins the company from Kellwood, where he has been president and CEO since 2008, overseeing brands including Scotch & Soda, Vince, Rebecca Taylor, ADAM, BLK DNM, David Meister and XOXO.

Previously he was executive vice president and CFO of Abercrombie & Fitch. He also was chief financial officer of Apple Retail from 2000-2005, where he worked under CEO Ron Johnson.

The company also today appointed Daniel Walker as chief talent officer. He was chief talent officer at Apple from 2000-2004 and continued as a consultant until mid-2005. He has also worked at Gap, helping to launch new concepts such as Gap Kids, Baby Gap, Gap International and a modernized Banana Republic.

The company today announced that it had swung into a third-quarter loss of US$143m for the quarter ended 29 October, against a profit of $44m in the same period of the previous year.
