Jean-Paul Gaultier is to shutter its ready-to-wear business in a bid to stem the French fashion label's losses, in a decision expected to lead to around 40 job cuts.

The label will present its final collection on 27 September, a spokesperson for the French fashion label told just-style, while haute couture activity will continue.

He confirmed Jean-Paul Gaultier's comments in the press in which he blamed "commercial constraints and the frenetic rhythm of collections which leave neither the freedom nor the time to find ideas and to innovate".

However, it appears plain business logic has led to parent company Puig, which also own Paco Rabanne and Nina Ricci, to withdraw Jean-Paul Gaultier from the off-the-peg segment, the label's figures having worsened since it lost almost EUR5m (US$6.5m) in 2012.
